John Deere has introduced its latest production class wheel loaders, the 744 X-Tier and 824 X-Tier models, equipped with the innovative Electric Variable Transmission (EVT) E-Drive system for superior fuel efficiency and productivity. These advanced loaders are designed to meet the rigorous demands of construction sites while providing exceptional operator comfort and safety.
“These new loaders reflect our commitment to efficiency and sustainability,” said Katie Voelliger, John Deere’s product marketing manager. “The 744 and 824 X-Tier models not only reduce downtime and ownership costs but also incorporate premium features and advanced technologies.”
The E-Drive system replaces the traditional torque converter and transmission, using a JD9 diesel engine as the primary power source. This hybrid design significantly reduces annual fuel costs and enhances productivity, offering up to a 7% total cost of ownership advantage over conventional drive systems. The E-Drive component delivers instant power, simplifies operation, and reduces complexity.
Operator comfort is a key focus, with a quieter cab environment due to the constant engine speed. Additional comfort features include premium seats and an AM/FM radio with Bluetooth capabilities. For those hauling materials over long distances, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System helps extend tire life and reduce fuel consumption by maintaining proper tire inflation.

Safety and situational awareness are improved with the Advanced Vision System and Advanced Object Detection, which enhance visibility on both sides of the loader. Dynamic reversal projected path lines assist operators in visualizing the anticipated reversal path, and deluxe LED lights enhance vision in low-light conditions.

The 744 and 824 X-Tier loaders also feature John Deere’s exclusive Pile Slip Assist, which provides proactive differential lock ahead of pile engagement, reducing tire slip, improving bucket fill, and lowering cycle time. The EVT system allows for more instantaneous responses with fewer operator inputs, using just one pedal for operation.

These loaders offer two fuel-efficient operational modes: Standard Mode and Performance Mode. Standard Mode focuses on sustainability, delivering up to 25% reduced fuel consumption while maintaining productivity. Performance Mode prioritizes productivity with a 5% performance increase and 15% reduced fuel consumption.

John Deere’s new 744 and 824 X-Tier wheel loaders are ideal for construction professionals seeking efficiency, sustainability, and advanced technology in their equipment.
