Kubota KX040-5 Mini Excavator Unveiled in the U.S. with Upgraded Hydraulics and Spacious Cab

Kubota has officially introduced its next-generation KX040-5 mini excavator in the U.S., showcasing the machine at the World of Concrete exhibition. This compact excavator, designed for rental, construction, landscaping, and utility applications, features enhanced hydraulics, a roomier cab, and improved operator controls.

Powerful Performance with Upgraded Hydraulics

The Kubota KX040-5 runs on a 40.3-gross-horsepower Kubota engine, delivering efficient and reliable performance. While maintaining similar specifications to its predecessor, the Dash-4, the latest model integrates advanced features for improved functionality.

A key highlight is the multifunction hydraulic system, allowing operators to maneuver the boom and travel simultaneously, making it ideal for using attachments like mowers. The auxiliary hydraulic flow is now adjustable via a 7-inch color LCD touchscreen, enabling operators to switch between one-way and two-way directional flow for attachments such as breakers. In one-way flow mode, the third-line hydraulic return activates automatically, optimizing performance.

Customizable Dozer Blade Options

The new Kubota KX040-5 offers three dozer blade options to enhance versatility. The standard model includes a fixed blade, while operators can choose an angle blade or an advanced six-way blade for more precise grading and leveling.

Enhanced Operator Comfort and Visibility

Kubota redesigned the operator cab, providing increased head and foot space for greater comfort. The expanded glass window area boosts visibility, while the upper front glass panel conveniently slides up and out of the way. The lower glass panel can be removed and stored inside the cab, catering to operators who prefer a clear view for trench work.

Noise reduction was another major focus, making this one of the quietest cabs in its class. Lower noise levels help reduce operator fatigue, improving efficiency on long workdays.

The control layout has also been revamped for greater ease of use. The joystick features a thumb-operated proportional flow control, allowing precise adjustment of the auxiliary circuit. Operators can also set continuous hydraulic flow by flipping a switch, ensuring seamless operation of attachments.

Advanced Cab Features for a Modern Worksite

Kubota has introduced several new convenience features in the KX040-5:

  • Keyless entry and start system with storage for up to 10 passcodes.
  • LED work lights with a delayed shutoff function for enhanced safety at night.
  • Redesigned backlit keypad for improved visibility.
  • Lower-profile travel sticks to increase the operator’s view of the work area.
  • USB charging port and phone holder for added convenience.
  • Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calls.

For additional customization, operators can opt for a ROPS canopy and a dealer-installed rearview camera. The air-suspension seat further enhances comfort during extended use.

Factory-Installed Telematics for Remote Monitoring

The Kubota KX040-5 comes prewired with KubotaNow telematics, enabling fleet managers to track machine performance and maintenance schedules remotely.

Availability and Market Expansion

Kubota plans to roll out the KX040-5 mini excavator to dealerships across the United States in early 2025. As the demand for compact excavators continues to rise, Kubota sees growing adoption in action sports, trail building, and terrain shaping applications.

With its combination of power, precision, and operator-focused enhancements, the Kubota KX040-5 is set to become a top choice in the 4- to 5-ton segment.
