Volvo Construction Equipment – Volvo CE – (originally Munktells, Bolinder-Munktell, Volvo BM) is a major international company that develops, manufactures and markets equipment for construction and related industries. Johan Theofron Munktell founded what became Volvo Construction Equipment in 1832 in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The history of the Volvo excavators is closely linked to that of the Swedish company Akermans Gjuteri och Mekaniska Verkstad, founded in 1890. Akermans introduced first excavator in 1939 and first hydraulic excavators in 1966. Since 1991, Akermans became a part of Volvo CE. Nowadays, Volvo is a subsidiary and business area of the Volvo Group.
